The best photos to paint from are close-ups of your pet. The more detail, the better. The quality of the final work depends completely on the quality of the reference photos Photos should be clear, sharp and at least one should show the pet’s exact eye color and coat color to insure a true-to-life portrait. Photos should also show any distinguishing markings you want in your painting. Digital images by email are welcomed. Send to taylor@taylorpagestudios.com and please reference “Pet Portraits”.
It is best to take several photos outdoors to get the best light and true color of your pet’s coat and eyes. It is best to get down on their level and have the sun or light source behind you or at a slight angle. Fill the frame with the pet. Have your pet sit or lie in the position you want in the portrait. Include a photo of your pet’s favorite sleeping spot such as a tree or on the couch. You may wish to include favorite toys, etc. You may want to have a friend help by getting your pet’s attention with squeaker toys or treats, to capture a characteristic pose or look.
The more detail in your photos, the more lifelike your paintings will be. All photos that you supply will be returned upon completion of your portrait. Color swatches of your choice of background will insure a perfect match. |
